01
Made to travel and keep
Pressed tea cakes are part of Yunnan's long history of moving tea between mountain regions and distant markets. Compression reduced bulk and helped protect the leaves during transport. Today the same familiar shape also makes Pu-erh convenient to store, share and open gradually over many tea sessions.
02
What time can—and cannot—do
Raw and ripe Pu-erh can both change during storage, but they do not change in the same way. Temperature, humidity, airflow, odours and the tea itself all influence the result. More years do not automatically mean better tea. Good storage and a clean cup are as important as the number printed on a wrapper.
03
The details a collector should know
A meaningful aged-tea listing should connect the cake with its production year, batch, raw or ripe style and storage history. These details help a drinker understand what is in the cup. When giving Pu-erh as a gift, the wrapper and accompanying label are therefore part of the tea's story, not merely packaging.
Tea history and craft describe the general style. Product-specific facts are limited to the current catalogue information; harvest, batch and label details should always be checked against the physical tea.
